Couvade Syndrome (or sympathy pains) is best summed
up by the experts:
"As if enduring your wife’s moods while she’s enduring the discomforts of pregnancy isn’t enough, some men kick it up a notch and join their mates in the fun on a physical level. Although few men have ever heard of Couvade syndrome, researchers tell us that this phenomenon – in which men experience physical symptoms and pains associated with late-stage pregnancy – is surprisingly common..." Poor Jess -- well, I would feel more sorry about it if I didn't have these symptoms all the time. So far Jess has experienced the heartburn (which he has never had in his life and now it is terrible) and the restless sleep (which really is probably attributed to my restlessness causing his). Also, he just informed me that he wants me to have the baby as badly as I do.
On another soon-to-be Daddy note -- baby Harris seems to know when Jess is putting his hand to my stomach. So far I have had probably over 20 people who have touched my pregnant belly -- all hoping to feel the baby kick -- but he only starts kicking when Jess touches my stomach. Coincidence? I don't think so. I think he knows when his Dad is touching my tummy and is saying "what's up, hommie." Well, he probably doesn't say hommie -- but that would be hilarious if he did.
